American Horror Story
UCLA – Grad Theoretical Project
For this project, we were lent the script for the pilot episode of American Horror Story to design. It was great, because we were able to design for a television show without having seen it, so we were able to really design from scratch.
For the character Infantata, the script purposely gave very little information about the character, so we each came up with our back story for the Infantata. My story I came up with was this ghost child came from the 1920′s, when the father was an at home doctor. His child was born with progeria. As the Infantata started to ache and get worse, his father would perform surgery by adding body parts from graveyards and wherever he could find. In this design, I have him with adult forearms attached and a cat eye, a dog’s leg, and several gut stitches to suggest more operations. Ultimately, his father grew to fear and feel guilty for the abomination he created and kept him forever in the basement, where he slowly starved and died. Of course, he never really left and now haunts the basement.
